Medical equipment

In the medical device industry, there is no room for error. Marking on equipment, instruments and components must be permanent, accurate and sterile, while meeting strict requirements for traceability and regulatory compliance (e.g. MDR and UDI standards). Here, laser marking is the most reliable and future-proof technology.

Laser marking

For marking batch numbers, best-before dates, serial numbers and 2D/UDI codes on medical devices, we recommend fiber lasers or UV lasers, depending on the material.

Fiber lasers are ideal for metals, titanium and stainless steel and are often used for surgical instruments, implants and laboratory components.

UV laser is better suited for plastics, silicone and sensitive polymers, where it provides marking with minimal heat impact and very high contrast.

Combining laser marking with a vision system allows each code to be checked in real time, ensuring that the marking is accurate, readable and traceable – in line with the requirements set by FDA, MDR and ISO standards.

In the medical device industry, there is no room for error. Marking on equipment, instruments and components must be permanent, accurate and sterile, while meeting strict requirements for traceability and regulatory compliance (e.g. MDR and UDI standards). Here, laser marking is the most reliable and future-proof technology.

Unlike ink or labels, the laser changes the surface of the material without adding any external substance – making it free from consumables, chemicals and the risk of contamination. It is a non-contact, clean and sustainable solution that is ideal for sensitive environments such as cleanrooms, laboratories and medical production.

  • Advantages of laser marking on medical equipment:
  • The laser burns, bleaches or engraves the surface, creating a marking that cannot be worn away, faded or affected by sterilization, cleaning or disinfection.
  • Capable of marking very small characters, logos, serial numbers and 2D/UDI codes with micron precision.
  • No contact with the surface, no ink or glue – completely contamination-free labelling that meets GMP and ISO 13485 standards.
  • Works on metal, stainless steel, titanium, plastic, ceramics and composites – common materials in medical technology.
  • No consumables and minimal maintenance result in lower total cost over time.

Laser marking is the most durable, hygienic and accurate marking solution for medical devices. It meets the industry’s requirements for sterility and traceability while minimizing operating costs and maintenance. At Logimark, we help you choose the right laser type, optimize the marking for your material and ensure you comply with applicable regulations – so that every product is marked with precision, cleanliness and full traceability.

Questions & Answers (FAQ)

Laser marking is the most reliable technology because it provides permanent, sterile and contamination-free marking. It leaves no residue, requires no inks or labels, and can withstand sterilization, autoclaving and chemical cleaning without being affected.
For metal, stainless steel and titanium, fiber laser is recommended – it provides a deep, dark and very durable marking. For plastic, silicone or polymers, UV laser is used, which works with low heat impact to avoid deformation and at the same time provides high contrast.
Yes. Because laser marking is a contactless process with no ink or adhesive, it is ideal for sterile environments and meets GMP and ISO 13485 standards. It can also be used in cleanrooms where particle control is critical.
Yes. The marking is burned into the surface of the material and is not affected by heat, steam, chemicals or disinfectants, making laser the best choice for instruments and equipment that are used repeatedly.
The laser can mark with micron precision, making it possible to create clear 2D/UDI codes, batch numbers or logos even on very small components and curved surfaces.
Yes. Our laser marking solutions fully comply with UDI (Unique Device Identification) requirements according to the EU MDR and FDA regulations. The markings can be directly linked to databases for traceability and documentation.
