Inkjet printing

Inkjet marking is a flexible option for marking on rubber, especially when the material is moving along a production line.

Benefits:

  • Contactless marking – not affected by the shape or movement of the material.
  • Customizable ink types with good adhesion to rubber.
  • Quick marking of batch numbers, article numbers or logos.

For extra challenging surfaces, we offer specialty inks with high pigmentation and chemical resistance – excellent for dark or oily rubber materials.

In the rubber industry, rubber sheets and sheets are used in a variety of applications – from seals and conveyor belts to industrial mats and molded parts. To ensure traceability, quality control and correct product identification, labelling is required that can handle the unique properties of the material.

Rubber is a challenging material to mark on because it is often flexible, stretchable, and sometimes treated with release agents such as silicone oil. This can make it difficult for ink, paint, or labels to adhere, and the marking can crack or distort when the material is bent. Additionally, some rubber compounds can have low surface tension or rough, porous structures, which can affect the accuracy of the marking.

Challenges when marking on rubber:

  • Flexible and stretchable surfaces can distort text or code.
  • Low surface tension makes ink and label adhesion difficult.
  • Oils, release agents and dust can impair the marking result.
  • High heat during vulcanization can affect the durability of the marking.

For marking directly on rubber sheets and rubber plates, we recommend inkjet marking with special ink adapted for rubber materials – especially for batch numbers and ongoing production data. For permanent markings that must withstand heavy use, UV light and chemicals, laser marking is the optimal solution.

Questions & Answers (FAQ)

It depends on the type of rubber material you use. For flexible, fast and non-contact marking, inkjet marking is recommended. For permanent marking that will withstand abrasion, heat and chemicals, laser marking is the best choice.
Rubber can be difficult to mark because it often contains oils or release agents. We use special inks with high pigmentation and improved adhesion that adhere even to oily or porous surfaces. Surface treatment, such as light cleaning or heating, can also improve the result.
Yes. Both CO₂ laser and fiber laser work well depending on the color and density of the rubber. The laser provides a permanent marking that is not affected by heat or chemicals – perfect for industrial applications.
In general, CO₂ lasers work best for lighter rubber compounds, while fiber lasers provide better contrast on dark or dense materials. We are happy to help you test which option will give the best results for your particular material.
This is usually due to the wrong technique or ink type being used. Inkjet marking is best for flexible surfaces as the marking follows the movement of the material. We can also adjust the text size and placement to minimize the risk of cracking.
Yes, in some cases – especially when rubber sheets are delivered as packaged units, where labelling is used on the packaging or pallets for batch numbers and product information, rather than directly on the material.
The most important thing is to choose the right technology for the right surface. Our experts will help you test mark your rubber materials to ensure optimal adhesion and contrast. We also offer solutions with vision systems to verify the quality of the marking in real time.
