Marking on corrugated and cardboard places special demands on the materials as they can be porous, uneven and sometimes dusty, which affects how well ink, labels and laser ink adhere. Therefore, inkjet marking and labelling are primarily used.

Where in warehouse & logistics is labelling used?

Labelling occurs at almost every stage of the logistics chain:

  • Pallet marking: Identifies the pallet's contents, batch and destination.
  • Outer packaging & cartons: Marked with barcodes, addresses and product information.
  • Picking and packing stations: Labelling of individual boxes and packages for traceability.
  • Incoming goods: Registration and marking upon arrival for inventory control.

Yes, inkjet marking works great. Our printers use pigmented ink with high contrast that is clearly visible even on dark or uncoated corrugated cardboard.
Labels are best when you need a lot of information, multilingual text, or multiple barcodes on the same surface. They are also used when the surface is uneven or has large variations in color, as the label provides a smooth printing surface.
It's mainly about choosing the right technology and ink type. Our systems use quick-drying ink that sticks even to porous or dusty surfaces. For labelling, we use adhesives adapted to cardboard and varying temperatures.
Yes. Labelling works best on laminated cardboard. Labels can be applied directly to the smooth laminate.
For large volumes of outer packaging or shipping boxes, inkjet labelling is the most cost-effective, as it does not require label material and can handle high production speeds without downtime.
