Sacks

In warehousing and logistics, sacks are used for everything from feed, building materials and chemicals to food and pellets. The marking on these packages plays a crucial role in identification, traceability and safe handling throughout the entire logistics chain. The information – such as batch numbers, product names, barcodes, best-before dates or customer-specific markings – must be clear, durable and legible even in demanding environments.

Inkjet printing

Inkjet marking is the most widely used technology for direct marking on moving sacks.

CIJ (Continuous Inkjet) is suitable for batch numbers, dates and product codes at high speeds.

PIJ (Piezo Inkjet) is used for larger, high-resolution prints such as logos or barcodes.

Advantages:

  • Contactless marking – works on moving and uneven surfaces.
  • High contrast with special ink adapted for plastic, paper or woven materials.
  • Quick-drying ink that is resistant to dust, moisture and friction.

Sacks can be made from a variety of materials, including paper, plastic (PE, PP), woven materials, or laminated film. These surfaces behave differently – some are porous, others are smooth or dusty – making labelling a challenge. In addition, sacks can be flexible, bulky, or irregularly shaped, requiring technology that can handle movement and uneven surfaces without losing quality.

The most common and effective techniques for marking bags are inkjet marking (CIJ/PIJ) and labelling.

Challenges when labelling sacks:

  • Moving and flexible surfaces can make direct marking difficult.
  • Dust, moisture and static electricity can affect adhesion and readability.
  • Material variation (woven, plastic, paper) requires customized inks and printing settings.
  • Heavy and bulky packaging requires robust equipment that can withstand vibrations and uneven surfaces.

For marking directly on sacks, we recommend inkjet marking (CIJ or PIJ) with specially adapted ink for the sack material. For logistics or transport marking where the information must be clear and standardized, we recommend labelling (print & apply). In environments with high dust content or uneven surfaces, we offer solutions with protected print heads, height-adjustable applicators and vision systems that ensure that the marking is placed correctly and remains readable.

At Logimark, we help you find the most reliable and operationally safe solution for your production – regardless of material, environment or labelling needs.

Questions & Answers (FAQ)

It depends on the material and the environment. For direct marking on moving sacks, inkjet marking (CIJ or PIJ) is recommended, as it is non-contact and works well on uneven surfaces. For more extensive information and logistics data, labelling (print & apply) is usually used.
Yes, with the right type of ink. We use special inks for polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP) and woven materials that adhere well even to smooth or coated surfaces. This provides clear and durable codes that do not smear.
Dust and moisture are common challenges, so there’s no need to panic. Our industrial inkjet systems are equipped with protected printheads and ventilation systems that prevent blockages and ensure that markings remain clear even in harsh environments. Alternatively, labelling can be applied to clean surfaces for better adhesion.
Yes. Labelling is perfect when the label needs to contain more information, multiple language versions or standardized barcodes (such as SSCC). The labels can be printed and applied automatically with print & apply systems.
For high production volumes and continuous marking in real time, inkjet marking (CIJ) is the most economical. It requires no label materials (but ink and solvent) and can handle high speeds without downtime.
Yes, our non-contact ink systems can mark even on moving bags. The marking head adapts to the shape and speed of the product to maintain precision.
