Tray labeling

Trays often need to be labeled at a high production rate, while the package may be full, light or pressure sensitive. The label can be placed on the top or folded over one or more edges, depending on the package and the function of the labeling.

Questions & Answers (FAQ) about Tray Labeling

Tray labeling involves automatically applying labels to food trays and other tray packaging. Our special solutions have been built for filled plastic trays with straight sides and angled edges, among other things. Since trays can be light, filled or sensitive to pressure, the machine needs to be adapted to how the packaging behaves in motion. The size of the label, its placement and the pace of your production also affect how transport, printing and application are designed.

The label can be placed on top or folded over one or more of the edges of the tray. Our solutions include top labeling, long labels and multi-page labeling. For example, a top label can be folded down over the sides, and some solutions can label up to four sides. When the label is to go over multiple surfaces, the application and folding down need to be timed carefully to ensure a consistent result even at high speeds.

Yes, it is possible to apply the label with very little or no physical contact. With Tray Mark The label is held in place by vacuum on a tampon and then blown into place. Directed air knives then fold it down over the edges of the tray. Tray Mark Pro uses wipe-on technology, where the label is transferred to the product, together with an air knife. The methods are particularly suitable for filled or delicate trays that need to be handled carefully.

It depends on the tray format, the label size and design, and how many pages are to be labeled. Our existing solutions have capacities of up to 20 and 40 labels per minute, respectively. With Tray Mark Pro The printed labels are buffered before application. This means that printing and application can work at different speeds, which provides a smoother flow and reduces the risk of printing slowing down production.

Yes, tray labeling can be adapted to your existing line, the available space and the speed you need. The solution is also designed according to the tray format, the label size and where the label will be placed. Our machines show examples of height adjustment, movable stands, saved recipes and buffering of printed labels. Depending on the application, printing can be done with thermal transfer or direct thermal technology.

The shape of the tray, the length of the label and the speed of the line determine how the application needs to be designed. When the label is to follow multiple pages, placement and folding need to be coordinated to give a smooth result without creating unnecessary interruptions in production.

Here you will find special machines for, among other things, top labeling, long label formats and multi-sided labeling of food trays and other tray packaging.
