Questions & Answers (FAQ) about Print & Apply

Among our print-and-apply labelling systems, there are a variety of different application methods to choose from.

  • Wipe-on: This method involves peeling the label from the backing paper and rolling it onto the surface of the product. This is the simplest and most common application method and works best on flat and regular products.
  • Belt: Belt applicator is used for wipe-on application at high speeds and when the most recently written label is needed on the product. An example of a most recently written label can be in connection with dynamic weighing. This is a method that is suitable for, for example, tray labelling.
  • Blow: An air-blow labeler uses air pressure to apply labels to products that have uneven surfaces. A fan holds the label in place on a plate. Once the product is in the correct position, the applicator releases a puff of air that adheres the label to the product. This non-contact method is ideal for uneven or delicate surfaces where traditional methods of pressing the label onto the product can be challenging or risky.
  • Tamp: Tamp labelling is a method of applying labels to products or packaging by using a stamp or “tamp” that presses the label directly against the surface. It is a common labelling technique that is often used for flat and solid surfaces, but can also work well on uneven or curved surfaces depending on the flexibility of the applicator.
  • Swing: This method applies the label using a rotating or “swinging” arm. Swing labelling can be used on a variety of product shapes and sizes, making it useful in many different industries. This method is often used in automated production lines where the rapid movement of the swinging arm allows for high labelling speeds, which is important in large-scale production.

Most Print & Apply systems can handle a wide range of labels, including self-adhesive labels, thermal transfer labels and thermal labels. The machines are adaptable to handle different sizes and materials.

For companies that only need to label small volumes or that frequently change label layouts, a Print & Apply machine may be less cost-effective compared to manual labelling.

Print & Apply

Are you looking for an efficient solution to print and apply labels directly to your products in one easy step? Our print-and-apply labelling systems give you the ability to handle labelling of products, cartons and packaging with high precision and speed. Each machine offers a range of different features and unique advantages to suit your labelling needs. It is advantageous to invest from the start in a labelling machine that will suit your production for many years to come and that can adapt as production grows and new conditions arise. Our machines can be delivered with endless possibilities when it comes to printer modules and positioning to apply labels at different angles.

Efficient Print & Apply for your production line

The labelling machines have a printer and applicator in the same unit, which makes it possible to print text, codes, logos, etc. and apply labels in the same step. Technically, the system works by first printing the label with a thermal transfer or direct thermal printer. After printing, the label is transferred to the applicator, which applies it to the product using different methods, such as “tamp-blow” or “wipe-on”, depending on the shape and surface of the product. The machine can be adapted to label everything from boxes and bottles to pallets and bags, making it very versatile. The machines are also adapted to integrate with other machines in your production line, such as filling machines or packaging machines, for a continuous workflow.

Regardless of whether you have a pre-printed or unprinted label, we recommend these labelling machines if you want to both apply and mark your label on the product. The marking can be variable information such as best-before date, QR code, serial number, batch number, etc.

How to use a Print & Apply labelling system

Using a Print & Apply machine is simple and efficient. The system integrates into your production line and labels products in real time as they pass through the line. You can program the system to print and apply labels with specific information to each product, giving you full flexibility. As a product passes through the machine, the system prints the label and applies it automatically without slowing down production. It’s a seamless process that saves time and reduces the risk of labelling errors.
