Questions & Answers (FAQ) about laser cutters

The following materials can be cut with a Trotec CO2 laser:

  • Acrylic
  • Plastic boards
  • Leather
  • Synthetic leather
  • Paper
  • Plastic material
  • Textiles
  • Wood
  • Cardboard
  • Cork
  • Rubber
  • Food

Trotec's laser cutter cannot cut into any type of metal.

Note that certain types of materials should not be engraved or cut with a laser due to their chemical composition. These materials contain hazardous substances that are released during processing in the form of gases and dust, which affect both the user and the function of the machine. Some of these materials include:

  • Inferior Leather (Chrome VI)
  • Carbon fiber
  • Polyvinyl chlorides (PVC)
  • PVC based synthetic leather
  • Polyvinyl Butural (PVB)
  • Polytetrafluoretylens (PTFE/Teflon)
  • Beryllias
  • Materials containing halogens (eg fluorine, chlorine, bromine, iodine and astat), epoxy or phenol harster.

A laser cutter can cut into a variety of materials. There are some factors that determine the maximum cut thickness - including the material, the laser effect and the speed. The laser power of the machines is available from 30-200 W.

In normal cases you can count 10 W = 1 mm on plastic and acrylic.

No, Trotec's machines are designed to be user-friendly. Their software, Ruby, is easy to use even for beginners. Very little training is required, and an integrated guide provides additional tips if needed. Users can select the material they are working with and choose the desired material effects, such as deeper engraving, dark engraving, or cutting. The cloud-based material database further helps streamline the process.

Ruby contributes to a simple and fast workflow from idea to final product!

We also offer training and support if you need help getting started.

Thanks to the protected design and robust construction, Trotec's laser cutter requires minimal maintenance. However, regular maintenance such as cleaning lenses and mirrors is recommended to maintain high performance and extend the life.

Trotec laser cutters are equipped with several safety functions - protective cabinets, temperature sensors, safety switches such as main switch, key switch and emergency stop button. These minimize risks to the operator.

TROTEC machines have CE marking, which meets EU requirements for safety, health and environmental protection. It gives you as a user a guarantee that the machine is safe to use and that it complies with current legislation.

It's not easy to answer. Each machine is configured based on the customer's wishes and therefore you cannot set a fixed price. Factors that affect pricing are for example

  • Laser Source – which material do you want to process?
  • Laser effect - How many units should you produce and what thickness does the material have?
  • Workspace - How big are your workpieces?
  • Accessories and equipment - workbench, exhaust system, rotating engraving accessories, lentils etc.

But you can expect a trotec CO2 laser to cost from approximately 100k sek.

All machines from Trotec are developed and built in Austria and maintains a high quality.

Have you ever heard of laser cutters from Trotec? If not, let's tell us why Trotec's machines can take your production and creativity to entirely new levels. Trotec is a leading international laser manufacturer and is known to make laser cutters that combine high precision, reliability and user -friendliness, making them the first choice for many companies around the world. Trotec laser can cut into wood, plastic, cardboard, leather, textile etc. Whether you work in the manufacturing industry, crafts, design or education, a laser cutter from Trotec will help you deliver results with millimeter precision and speed.

How a laser cutter works

Trotec's laser cutter uses advanced laser technology to cut or engrave different types of materials such as wood, plastic, cardboard, leather, textile, cork and rubber with high precision. This technology is based on a laser beam directed at the material, which either melts, burns or evaporates it depending on material type and cutting depth.

That is unique with Trotec's laser cutter

Trotec has integrated several technologies to optimize performance:

  • The Speedy series : This popular series from Trotec is known for its high engraving and cutting speeds and precision, and it is perfect for everything from engraving to deep cuts in several materials.
  • Flexx technology : The Speedy series from Trotec can be ordered with both CO 2 and fiber laser, which allows you to switch between different materials without having to change the machine. This is a unique advantage for companies that need maximum flexibility.
  • Packing technology : Trotec laser cutter has a closed design that protects sensitive components from dust and particles, which reduces the need for maintenance and extends the life of the machine.

With Trotec you get access to intuitive software, Ruby, which makes it easy to upload and edit design files, adjust settings and get full control over the entire process - from design to finished product.

How to use Trotec's laser cutter

Using a Trotec laser cutter is both simple and flexible. Here is a quick guide on how to proceed:

  1. Charge the design : Start by creating or importing your design into Trotec's software Ruby, where you can easily adjust details, lines, sizes and other settings.
  2. Set up materials and parameters : Trotec's software has preset parameters for a variety of materials, so you can quickly choose the settings that fit your material for engraving and cutting. You can also create your own material settings as you get to know the laser.
  3. Start the cut : When everything is set, the laser cutter starts working. The laser follows exactly the preset design, and thanks to Trotec's high -speed engines, the engraving and cutting goes extremely fast.
  4. Check the result : When the cut is complete, you can immediately see the clean, exact cutout or engraving. Trotec's laser cutter provides minimal spillage and finishing, which saves both time and materials.

Common uses for laser cutter

Laser cutters are used in a variety of industries, thanks to their versatility and precision. Here are some examples:

  • Advertising and signs : Cut and engrave in acrylic, wood or plastic with incredible accuracy for signs and display material.
  • The manufacturing industry : Perfect for marking or cutting out parts of acrylic for precision details in machines or tools.
  • Architecture and model building : Build detailed models with precise cutting of thin materials such as cardboard, wood and acrylic.
  • Furniture and interior design : cut out and engrave detailed patterns in wood, leather and textile, perfect for custom furniture or interior products.
  • Education and research : Many schools and universities use laser cutters to help students create prototypes and learn design and engineering processes.
