What is a tax stamp?
A tax stamp is a specific label placed on tobacco products to confirm that the correct tax has been paid. The stamp must meet several criteria in terms of design, placement and material. It is not enough for the label to simply be on – it must be applied in exactly the right place to be valid.
An important feature is the perforation in the label, which causes the label to break when opened. It serves as a clear indicator of whether a product has been opened. In addition, the Tax stamp must be a separate label in a specific format, and the label must never cover warning texts or other information on the banner label.
Does the tax stamp apply to all types of snus?
No. Currently, tax stamps are only required on products that contain tobacco. There is no such requirement for white snus – but this may change. In the future, a new decision is expected to be made regarding the regulation of tobacco-free snus as well.

In order for the tax stamp to be placed exactly right, a orientation function is required.. As there are only a few centimetres available on the can, each can must be identified, rotated and positioned correctly before the label is applied. It is particularly important that the label does not cover any warning text or regulatory information.
